Our first year testing Colocasia 'Metallica' left outside in the ground. We've also left one planted in the ground in the polytunnel (without any mulch). Ensured we chose ones with a nice big, well-fed tuber. Soil was banked up around and over it, as well as a shelter to keep the rain off. Granted we've had a relatively mild winter so far (compared to last), so it's great to see some nice firm, healthy tubers and stolons after experiencing a low of -8.3c recently. Giving it a well-deserved airing until the next cold snap arrives. Very happy days!
